Stella remains aloof and even scolding to Jeff about peeping on his neighbors, until he mentions that the salesman may be single and available soon. At this point she stops and asks Jeff if the salesman and his wife are splitting up. Lisa remains disinterested and disapproving of his spying until she sees the salesman strapping down a steamer trunk through his window. From then on they both become caught up in the gossip about the neighbors, and the web of suspicion about the salesman.
