If you look closely at the raptors everytime Hoskins is in the vicinity of them, and calls them "he" or "boys", a big growl or a small eye twitch is shown, showing the Raptors clearly understand him and always react badly to him getting their genders wrong, which makes it all the more fitting when Hoskins called Delta (who already hated him from the beginning) "good boy" right before she snaps and kills him.
