The film's second plot involving Jack's story about corruption involving the Mayor's office and Lieberman, the head of the Department of Sanitation, revolves around a vital deposit slip that his wife, Elaine has in her possession and vindicates him as she finally appears in the sea of reporters with the proof at the 17:00 press conference with the Mayor in which Melanie stalls so Jack and Elaine could get there just before the Mayor leaves.
