The Blu-ray for the film contains a "motion comic" version for a planned alternate opening for the film, which featured a family trying to escape the flood only to be attacked and killed by the alligators. Alexandre Aja explained in an introduction that this motion comic was created because the filmmakers were unable to produce the opening in live action. Why they were unable to produce a live-action version of this alternate opening remains unknown.
