On the audio commentary track, Paul Seydor talks of a scene in the film, the aftermath of the first confrontation between Dundee's troop and the Apache at a river crossing, in which Michael Anderson Jr.'s character dips a ladle into the river for a drink of water and then must dump it back out because there is blood mixed in with the water. Scenes like this were major bones of contention between director Sam Peckinpah, who wanted to point out both the horror and the perverse thrill of war, and producer Jerry Bresler, who felt that such scenes were gratuitous beyond imagination.
