The concept of a "Red Room" stems from Charlotte Brontë's classic 1847 novel "Jane Eyre", where the young Jane's greatest fear is to be forced to stay in the Red Room (a bedroom with red drapes), where the previous lord of the manor she lives at died, and is said to be haunting. When she is locked in there as punishment, she passes out from fear. Stephen King also famously referenced this in The Shining, with the usage of the phrase "redrum".
