Calvin J. Candie's given names are a reference to Italian director Giorgio Ferroni, who directed several Spaghetti Westerns, including a trilogy starring Giuliano Gemma (Un dollaro bucato (1965), Per pochi dollari ancora (1966), and Wanted (1967)). For these films, he was usually credited as "Calvin J. Padget", "Calvin Jackson Padget" or "Calvin Jakson Padget". Quentin Tarantino has listed the Padget-Gemma trilogy among his favorite Spaghetti Westerns, and used the first film's theme for the soundtrack of Bastardi senza gloria (2009).
