Rod Roddy's audience warm-up routine was very different from Johnny Olson's in that it had more of a Las Vegas opening feel about it, which was followed by a humorous instruction session that required the audience to stand up and take all these goofy vows. The "Oath of Audience," he called it. One was "I will not chew gum on television!" and the audience would repeat that along with Rod's list of other on-air no-no's. Rod loved the feeling of what he called "The Big Room." That's a reference to the important showrooms in Vegas where the great talent would appear. Rod was crazy about big band jazz, so he had music director Stanley Blits scout for jazz albums, he and created a custom-edited grandiose brassy introduction track especially for him that would sound like Frank Sinatra was entering the room. Rod flipped when he heard it and used it for every show warm-up that he did.
