The most-popular show was finally canceled after 8 seasons when Elizabeth Montgomery had finally had enough of playing Samantha and also due to low ratings. The last few seasons featured an increasing amount of re-used scripts and by the final season, it was evident that Montgomery was "phoning in" the role.
