Perhaps for dramatic purposes, Frankie is depicted as having recorded "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You", his first single as a solo artist, several months after his daughter's drug overdose. In real life, Francine Valli died in 1980, and "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You" was recorded in 1967 after Frankie Valli had already established a solo career (though none of his prior singles matched the success of this one). In the stage musical (on which this movie was based), Frankie Valli sings his 1976 song "Fallen Angel" after Francine's death. Neither this movie nor the stage musical acknowledge that Frankie was re-married at the time of Francine's death and also had a real-life stepdaughter, Celia, who tragically died in a fall earlier that year.
