Mar the cat was killed in the original film Ju-on: the Curse (2000) by stabbing, when Takeo threw him into the bathtub and slashed him repeatedly with a box cutter. In order to keep a PG-13 rating, his death had to be altered to Mar being drowned instead (and the murder itself being off-screen).
