At one point, a list of prior offenses is read, including possession/use of brass knuckles and "saps". A sap is a blackjack - a small hand-held leather bag filled with steel shot and is used for hitting a victim on the head to incapacitate him. Sap gloves, are gloves with lead or steel granules sewn into the knuckles and backs of the hands.
