During several interviews, Sidney Sheldon admitted that he used the comedy movie La più allegra avventura (1964), a film about a man, portrayed by Tony Randall, who unleashes a male genie (played by Burl Ives) who causes more problems for his master than he solves - as a working model for the show. In the movie, Randall's girlfriend was played by Barbara Eden.
