Peyton Reed is a huge Marvel fan and seized the opportunity to direct a film in the MCU even if it meant stepping in at the last minute to take over a project previously helmed by Edgar Wright. Before the film's release, he went on the record as saying he'd absolutely direct the sequel. Reed directed the sequel Ant Man and the Wasp.
