Another imaginary team present in this movie is the Marchigiana, taken directly from another movie of director Sergio Martino, Mezzo destro mezzo sinistro - 2 calciatori senza pallone (1985), also starring Andrea Roncato in a main role, a movie which was originally intended as a spin-off of L'allenatore nel pallone (1984) and which would also have included the character of Oronzo Canà, but the eventual unavailability of actor Lino Banfi led to a somehow different plot. If in the original movie Marchigiana was largely inspired by Ascoli Calcio, in this movie it references Atalanta due to similar jerseys and logos and the setting of their home stadium in the Stadium Atleti Azzurri d'Italia in Bergamo. Thus, despite of its name, in this movie the Marchigiana seems to have its roots in Northern region Lombardy rather than in Marche as in the original movie.
