The defeat of Volkner's Electivire marked the first time Pikachu defeated a member of the Electabuzz evolutionary line one on one. In all other instances, it has either tied or lost, with the exception of Dr. Namba's Electabuzz where Pikachu teamed up with Ritchie's Pikachu, Sparky to defeat it.
