Before the series, William Devane worked with Joan Van Ark in the TV movie Giochi di guerra (1981), Van Ark played one of the two combatants' earthbound--and long-suffering--spouses. On this show, both Van Ark and Devane rarely had lines with each other, though they met in the 5th season, and shared scenes, beginning with the 8th season.
