"Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer" once owned the rights to this movie and even gave Moira Shearer an "M.G.M." contract. This movie has something in common with Il ponte di Waterloo (1940). In both films, the leading female characters are so divided with the events in their lives that they commit suicide. It is also a coincidence that, in the words of both Robert Osborne and actress Arlene Fontaine, "Moira Shearer looks like a red-headed Vivien Leigh."
