Though never stated in the show, the reason why Chris Jennings was a werewolf, and not his twin brother Tom, was because he was the first-born twin. Had Tom been the first-born twin, then he would have been the werewolf and not Chris. It is later revealed that they are the descendants of Quentin Collins, who was the first recipient of the werewolf curse placed by the gypsy Madga, whose younger sister, Jenny, he was married to. All of the first-born males of each generation thereafter would be the recipients of the werewolf curse.
