Alejandro Jodorowsky planned on making numerous changes to the source material, including making Duke Leto a eunuch after an accident during a bullfight; Paul Atreides was to have been conceived with a drop of Leto's blood fertilizing Lady Jessica's ovum. The conception of Alia would have been radically different from the original novel as well, since Leto would not have been able to impregnate his wife before she and Paul set out into the desert: a deleted scene would have shown Paul and Jessica finding the trunk that the Baron tossed the body parts of Leto into, left in the desert. Using the same magic she used to impregnate herself with Paul, Jessica would have used the blood of Leto to impregnate herself with Alia. The spice was re-imagined as a sentient blue sponge, and the Emperor lived on an artificial gold planet with a robot doppelganger, sitting on a toilet shaped like two dolphins. One anecdote that director Frank Pavich had to omit from this documentary for time reasons was the description of a scene where the Harkonnen Raban and his army of 2000 soldiers would display their disrespect to Duke Leto by dropping their pants in front of his palace, and all defecating at once (this was reportedly the reason that Charlotte Rampling declined to play Jessica). At the end, Paul is killed, but his allies then all start to speak in his voice, his persona resurrected in anyone who knew him. Eventually, Paul's consciousness spreads to everyone on the planet, and Arrakis changes into a garden planet that travels through the cosmos to spread enlightenment. Although author Frank Herbert met with Jodorowsky and called their contact "amicable", he openly despised these concepts.
