The first episode directed by Kevin Smith is titled "Supergirl Lives", after "Superman Lives", the infamous movie he wrote, which would star Nicolas Cage in the title role (see The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened? (2015).) Smith joked he wanted Supergirl to fight a giant spider, referencing the infamous battle scene proposed for that film.
