The series takes place beginning in the future of 1997 (specifically the Jupiter 2, en route for Alpha Centauri, blasted off on October 16, 1997); the film based on the series, Lost in Space - Perduti nello spazio (1998), began production in 1997. 1997 is also the year that Robotron: 2084 (1982), RoboCop (1987), & Predator 2 (1990) take place.
