A sequel spin-off series called "The Patakis" was planned where it's about the life of Helga and her family. The characters would be depicted as teenagers and would air on the Nick at Nite block. It was canceled after Nickelodeon said it would be too dark for their type of network. Bartlett attempted to pitch it to MTV but was rejected on their network claiming it's too similar to their show Daria (1997).
