The opening scene depicting a child playing a Crane game is a hint at the overall plot of the film. Not only is the idea of a crane hand grabbing a stuffed animal foreshadowing the characters' abduction but the small glass box in which the stuffed animals reside Is simply a smaller version of the glass dome used for the simulation of Earth/Area 51.
