Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio first met at the Cannes Film Festival in 1996. Winslet knew that DiCaprio had auditioned, but was hesitant to take the role of Jack. She discovered where his hotel room was, and went to chat with him about doing the film. "I was thinking 'I'm going to persuade him to do this, because I'm not doing this without him.'"
