Richie's reveal as one of the killers marks the third time in the series that the killer is played by a member of a famous acting family. Jack Quaid is the son of Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan, and nephew of Randy Quaid. In Scream 4, the killers were played by Emma Roberts (daughter of Eric Roberts, niece of Julia Roberts) and Rory Culkin (brother of Macaulay Culkin and Kieran Culkin, nephew of Bonnie Bedelia).
