In the Blu-Ray special features regarding the Peter Weyland Archives (the promotional videos for the film including the David commercial), there is a clip called The Peter Weyland Files: TED Conference, 2023 (2012) accompanied by a document where Peter Weyland mentions a 'mentor and a long-departed competitor' who encouraged a corporate merger between his corporation and Weyland's. The document mentions that the mentor was a man who ran his corporation "like a God on top of a pyramid overlooking a city of angels", and he was trying to replicate the power of creation in an unoriginal way, by replicating organic humans instead of through robotics. Weyland also scoffs at the mentor's use of false memory implants to control the "genetic abominations", something that "literally blew up in the old man's face". This entire document, written by Blu-Ray producer Charles de Lauzirika, is a clear reference to Blade Runner (1982) (directed by Sir Ridley Scott as well), Dr. Tyrell and his Tyrell Corporation, who created organic Replicants to be sold off-world as cheap slave labor, but was finally killed by one of his own creations who killed him by crushing his skull. Scott later stated that he considers the Alien and Blade Runner franchises to exist in the same fictional universe.
