The real CSS Texas Ironclad was captured before ever making her maiden voyage along the James River. Union forces captured her on April 4th, 1865 at the Norfolk Naval Yard in Richmond, VA while she was still incomplete. She was abandoned after surviving unsuccessful attempts at destruction by evacuating Confederates the day previous. Unlike her sister Ironclads, she was not recommissioned as a Union ship, and on October 15th, 1867 she was sold at auction and subsequently cut down for scrap.
