Many people consider the movie to be set in Florida, when the movie was only shot there while the movie is set in a fictional location created by Victor Salva for several of his movies. the film takes place in "The place of the three counties", more specifically on Highway 9 east of Pertwilla and Poho (fictional places where several Victor Salva films are developed).
