This film marks the first appearance of the Miranda class starship, namely the U.S.S. Reliant. The model was reused in Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987), Generazioni (1994), and in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993), as other vessels of the same class, or Soyuz class.
