Leonard Smalls is named after Lennie Small, one of the two main characters in John Steinbeck's novel "Of Mice and Men." John Malkovich, who played Lennie Small in Uomini e topi (1992), worked with Nicolas Cage in Con Air (1997), and worked with Frances McDormand and the Coen Brothers in "Burn After Reading" (2008).
