Originally, Mason Weaver was supposed to have a romantic connection with Kong. This idea was changed as it seemed too similar to King Kong (1933) and Peter Jackson's 2005 remake. Also, the producers wanted Kong to be the prime protagonist instead of Mason. However, the small scene of Mason's hand touching Kong's is the remnant of the original script.
