Francesca Annis (Lady Jessica) has commented that she had a negative impression when first watching the movie during the premiere, stating, "any Hollywood film that has to explain itself in detail at the beginning is in trouble". Also according to her, Dino De Laurentiis and David Lynch's different views, as well as De Laurentiis' creative interventions, contributed for the movie's poor performance. "If David Lynch had been able to make his own film, it would have been brilliant, but unfortunately Dino oversaw every single tiny thing."
