The trumpet playing during the 2001: Odissea nello spazio (1968) 'blue monkeys' sequence was played by director Dan Kwan, who is not a professional but played the instrument as a child. It's also a reference to Portsmouth Sinfonia's version of Richard Strauss' Also Sprach Zarathustra, where the orchestra switches instruments with one another despite having no idea how to play them.
