Nick Gray, a then 17-year-old in suburban Atlanta, got his hands on an MPAA-rejected, NC-17 workprint of the film (still titled "Great Falls") months before the film came out and showed it to friends. Excited about what he says is an honest portrayal of high school life, he started an unauthorized Web site devoted to the film. Producer Warren Zide saw the site and invited Mr. Gray to a preview screening in Atlanta. Mr. Gray also met and had lunch with Shannon Elizabeth. He wound up getting a part in American Pie 2 (2001), but in a deleted scene, which can be found on the DVD.
