Tom Jennings was the first character on Dark Shadows to be turned into a vampire by another vampire, but not by Barnabas, but rather Angelique, who was turned into a vampire by her "brother," the warlock Nicholas Blair as punishment for disobeying him. Barnabas was human when this happened.
