Heath Ledger was considered for the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman during this movie's early development before Ledger and Nolan agreed he was not right for the role. Years later, he was cast as the Joker in Il cavaliere oscuro (2008), a role that won him a posthumous Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
