At the beginning of the first couple of seasons, Natalie and Blair had to tape down their developing chests, so their appearance remained that of adolescents. However, Lisa Whelchel also said, "The facts of life were not allowed on 'The Facts of Life.'" Janet Jackson complained about the same thing on Good Times (another Norman Lear production). Andrea McCardle said the same thing happened on the set of Annie; Carrie Fisher said the same thing happened on the set of Star Wars, and the same thing reportedly happened to Anissa Jones on Family Affair, as well as to Judy Garland on the Wizard of Oz set. Unfortunately, this is an old tradition with young girls in Hollywood which continues to this day.
