The movie correctly depicts the first use of concentration camps by the Britsh during the Boer Wars (it was not a German invention). Oxford's wife Emily (Alexandra Maria Lara) is loosely based on Emily Hobhouse, a British activist who exposed the deplorable conditions of these British concentration camps during the Second Boer War.
