In the X-Files: Pilot (1993), when Scully is interviewed by Division Chief Scott Blevins (Charles Cioffi) to see if she knows Fox Mulder, she replies that she didn't know him directly, but by his reputation as the F.B.I.'s analyst and his work in the capture in 1988 of a killer named Monty Props. It's the only reference about Props made in the entire series. Props was created after Garret Jacob Hobbs, a serial killer only mentioned in Thomas Harris' novel "Red Dragon" (who was shot to death by Will Graham). Harris' universe was a strong influence in the creation of the series.
