Actor Peter Facinelli had the idea for his character, Carlisle, to be frequently seen wearing scarves and/or shirts with high collars. He said "I just felt like it added a little piece to his character. It wasn't in the book but I thought it might be interesting that because he was bitten maybe he has a fear of having his neck exposed."
