Jessica Chastain was originally approached for the role of Dr. Christine Palmer before the casting of Rachel McAdams, but turned down the offer due to her insistence on portraying a character with superpowers. Chastain was previously considered for Maya Hansen and Hope van Dyne in Iron Man 3 (2013) and Ant-Man (2015) respectively.
