Yash Chopra was also making films for his brother B.R.Chopra and then for Gulshan Rai. Silsila was the first film Yash Chopra made without Gulshan Rai and in fact Gulshan Rai didn't like Silsila. The flopping of Kaala Pathaar and the story of Silsila was one of the reason Gulshan Rai cut the relationship between him and Yash Chopra.
