Cary Elwes reprised his role as his character, Dr. Gordon, from Saw - L'enigmista (2004), for this film. Disputes over his salary caused him to file a lawsuit and, as a result, decline opportunities to return for previous films in the series when offered. However, after the lawsuit was finally settled out of court, Elwes agreed that he would return for, what was thought to be, the final entry in the series. This is the last time Elwes appeared in a film for the series.
