Margaret Hamilton appeared on Mister Rogers Neighborhood decades later in an attempt to demistify the iconic villainess she played so well. "Witches are just nice ladies, like me, dressing up in a costume, and playing make believe, because that's their job. But they're no different than you and me," Hamilton said. "Yes, I can see witches are nice people playing make believe, and are no real threat to us," Rogers parroted. "I like witches now.". This was all an attempt to soften Hamilton's terrifying-hag image, and let the public she was a real person. But alas, it was to no avail. Hamilton claimed in interviews that even after this children when they saw her on the street would run away from her screaming for years and years; for the rest of her life really.
