After the film's poor box office returns, several Batman projects were considered for the next Batman movie. One was a direct sequel, "Batman Unchained," written by Mark Protosevich. The second was an adaptation of the graphic novel, "Batman: Year One." The last was a live-action adaptation of Batman of the Future (1999). Instead, the series was rebooted with Batman Begins (2005).
