After Top Gun (1986) became a massive box-office hit, Stallone, Warner Brothers, and The Cannon Group were afraid that Cobra wouldn't be successful, so they cut it down heavily in order to have more theatrical screenings per day. A similar thing happened with Ancora 48 ore (1990) which was heavily re-edited to compete with Atto di forza (1990), but as with Cobra, it created many plot holes.
