Despite being Randy's niece and sharing many of his personality traits, Mindy is actually not the "expert" of the film. This is confirmed near the end of the movie when she becomes suspicious of Liv after Chad's disappearance. Liv then threatens Mindy with the idea that she will die because she is the expert. Instead, Dewey Riley was the expert, as first mentioned by Sam, and died meaning Liv was technically correct. However, Mindy not being the expert does foreshadow her survival at the end of the movie.
