The abuse Caesar suffered in captivity also mirrors that suffered by George Taylor in Il pianeta delle scimmie (1968). Both escape and attack a keeper, and are confiscated by the authorities, to the protest of their owners who know they are intelligent. Both are attacked by one of their mute brethren which results in a fight, and subsequently are locked to an individual cell. Both are attacked with fire hoses jammed through the bars of his cell when they become belligerent.
