Calvin Candy's death, shot through a white carnation pinned to his jacket, is taken from the spaghetti-western Il mercenario (1968). Jack Palance's character, Ricciolo/Curly, meets his fate this way. The music playing during the scene in the Italian film is also used in Tarantino's film Kill Bill - Volume 2 (2004) when the bride escapes the grave.
